Jaeeun Kim
Jaeeun Kim is a South Korean ceramic artist based in London. She began her artistic journey in ceramics and later expanded her practice to include art therapy after working with children with special needs, an experience that profoundly shaped her perspective and approach to art.
After earning a Master's degree in Ceramic Art from Kyunghee University in Korea, Jaeeun took on roles as a ceramic artist, university lecturer, and art therapist. To deepen her understanding of art therapy, she pursued a second postgraduate degree in Applied Psychology at the University of Salford in Manchester, UK.
Jaeeun’s ceramic practice centers on hand-crafted fine stoneware, including a range of distinctive vases and unique sculptural objects. Her work is grounded in the principles of art therapy, a therapeutic approach that encourages self-expression through creative mediums such as painting, drawing, and sculpting.
Her ceramic vases tell the story of her journey back home, inspired by a drawing method used in art therapy called House-Tree-Person (HTP). Each vase holds its own story, connecting past memories to the idea of home. Made from porcelain, each piece features handmade designs and colors crafted by Jaeeun herself. Through the HTP drawing approach, she expresses a personal path of healing and self-discovery, bringing these memories to life in each vase.
